The Enlightenment Machine

A nun in Berlin seeking enlightenment. Khan as a male hustler on "1-900 Get-Khan" (Matador) including his own phone sex line. Khan the torch singer Gothic Bunny on "Who Never Rests" (Tomlab), as the "Last Standing Disco Band" with Captain Comatose (Playhouse), once around the planet and off into space, and now as the bearded big city nun on Albumlabel. The songs on "The Enlightenment Machine" tell small tales of ethics gone astray, interchanged sexes and cheap pearls of wisdom that somehow ring true in the end. "The Enlightenment Machine" is inspired by Brion Gysin's Dream Machine. The eternal spinning of the turntable, boring into the future like a helix. These locked grooves serve as the basis of all the tracks on Khan's new album. They contain dense dub echoes, live percussions, deep sub-basses and the ghostly cello of New York guest musician Julia Kent. "The Enlightenment Machine" requires the same thing a dream machine does: to sit in front of it quietly with closed eyes and allow oneself to be illuminated. Groups are also accepted. International troubadour and Berlin resident Khan and his "Enlightenment Machine" present the second release for the new music platform Albumlabel from the Random Noize Musick company, internationally known as a publisher under the same name (with Apparat, Oval, Raz Ohara and Phon.o, among others) and for its label Shitkatapult. Following Raz Ohara - Moksha (ALB001), Khan now comes with "The Enlightenment Machine" (ALB002), a specific yet very free model for understanding music in an album format: novel-like, clear-cut, scattered, lovestruck. Likewise, on both records, the machines support the feelings, the instruments the voices, and the songs the tracks.

Bio

Can "Khan" Oral, born of Turkish-Finnish parents in Frankfurt/M works and lives as a music- and film-music producer, performer, actor and visual artist in Berlin since 2002.
Living in NYC from 1992-2002 he owned the electronic record shop Temple Records Soho/NYC, hosted downtown art events and parties, run three record labels and produced and performed with a variety of artists and projects such as: Captain Comatose, Diamanda Galas, Julee Cruise (Twin Peaks), Kid Congo Powers (The Cramps/Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds) or Brigitte Fontaine with whom he won the Qwartz Award 2010 for best song in France.
Can "Khan" Oral hosted a monthly party at the Berlin techno shrine Berghain and tours internationally solo or with various artists and projects. In 2012 Khan worked on an opera piece with Stereo Total, a theatre production for Hau 3 called "Wir sind ein Bild aus der Zukunft". Group and solo exhibitions for Kunstraum Bethanien and Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin or the Fondacion Pedro Mayer/Mexico to Le Dictateur in Milano Italy just to name a few. He presented his photo-book/box-set "Angels Of Disguise" (Fantome Verlag 2013) at Import/Export Kassel's documenta13.
Khan's new solo studio album "The Enlightenment Machine" is due April 4th 2014 on AlbumLabel/Radom Music.
